Abstract Background The purpose of this study is to investigate the aqueous humor (AH) T lymphocyte subsets and cytokines acute retinal necrosis (ARN) elucidate immunologic inflammatory features disorder. Methods Three patients with ARN infected varicella zoster virus (VZV) who underwent multiple intravitreal injections ganciclovir were enrolled in study. control group consisted four non-infectious anterior uveitis (AAU). Flow cytometric analysis was performed on from AH peripheral blood (PB) samples during active phase intraocular inflammation. Five measured each sample various clinical characteristics also assessed. Results VZV deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) detected by real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) all patients, showed higher CD8+ lymphocytes population than AAU ( p = 0.006).
